"Take time to discuss your expectations - but with the understanding that your student may need to pull away a bit in order to fully engage in college life. Together, set some agreed-upon rules about how and when you'll stay in touch." Kelly Radi, p. 125 Out to Sea: A Parent's Survival Guide to the Freshman Year

The communication worksheet walks families and students through a conversation around the frequency of communication.  The first step is for the student and the family member(s) to fill out the top part with their ideal preferences separately.  Then, in the bottom part, they come together for a conversation to formulate a compromise that works for all parties.  This worksheet can be completed with each family member or have one document for the entire family.  Additionally, the attached PDF can be edited directly on the document or printed and written on.  We recommend revisiting these agreements periodically to see if they are still appropriate for your family.
